Under the auspices of the Prime Ministry, the Ministry of Investment and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a Euromoney Conference was held in Cairo in May 2008 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. The conference focused on the economic and financial crisis, its underpinning along with its impact on Egypt and the MENA region. Further discussions took place with respect to the way forward and possible medium to longer-term solutions. A special emphasis was placed on the need to differentiate between the Egyptian economic system and the monetary system, the capital market economy, the real economy and the informal sector. Dr. Hani Sarie Eldin, Founder and Chairman of Sarie-Eldin and Partners, was invited as a speaker to highlight Capital Market reforms in Egypt. Cumulating more than 22 year of experience in business law and capital market and being the former Chairman of the Capital Market Authority in Egypt, he exposed the different challenges the capital market faces and the necessity for an effective reform process to enhance the regulation, supervision and transparency of the Egyptian capital market.
